„I draw from the creative force within me, an essential life energy that connects me to the universe.”
Dr. Barbara Bódi
Painter, Art Educator, and Social Researcher
“Art is the conspiracy of angels above the world.”
In this conspiracy, I take part with my brush, seeking a higher reality beyond what is seen, delving into mysteries where art can occasionally gain insight.
I consider my masters to be B. István Nagy and Péter Földi, recipients of the prestigious Munkácsy Award, under whose guidance I studied at the Faculty of Humanities and Arts at the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University, where I was awarded a scholarship for outstanding talent. I also refined my visual expression at the private school of Munkácsy Award-winning visual and applied artists József Baska and Katalin Rényi. Additionally, I attended the courses of Kossuth Award – winning painter István Szentandrássy, where I came to understand the essence of
innate talent. However, in synthesizing my studies, I now walk my own path, one that seeks the Creator through the admiration of nature, the One who brought me into existence. Therefore, I first search within, for everything is already inside.
“You are the world, and the world becomes real within you.”
Art

DrBoba, as an artist, seeks harmony through the dynamic interplay of opposites on the horizon of human emotions. Her work blends classical painting traditions with innovative technical advancements, while her unique personal messages, shaped by her emotions and thoughts, serve as guiding forces. Her identity is conveyed through a complex system of symbols, deeply rooted in her Hungarian and Roma heritage, her Christian mysticism-seeking spirituality, and her sensitivity as a woman and mother. Through this, she holds up a distinctive mirror to contemporary society.
Her artistic direction can be divided into three main themes:
- Inspired by Nature: The artist draws inspiration from the wonders of the natural world, energizing and shaping her experiences through its perfection. She transforms traditional landscapes and the plant kingdom into her own personal vision, imbuing them with new layers of meaning, reflecting the universal harmony and the Creator’s miracles.
- Classical Figuration and Innovative Techniques: While respecting classical painting traditions, DrBoba continuously explores and implements new materials and techniques. By doing so, she offers fresh interpretations of traditional themes, at times abandoning figuration to develop emotional maps, reflecting her internal impulses. The visual experience of her work has an energizing effect on the viewer and their surroundings.
- 3. Mystery-Seeking, Message Conveying, and Storytelling: DrBoba’s art transcends the visual language, aiming to convey messages that go beyond the surface. Her mission is to communicate higher truths and capture historical moments through artistic expression, transforming the intangible into visible
and tangible realities. The visual impressions of the messages she receives offer a glimpse into the world of mysteries.
Through these three principal directions, DrBoba continues to create new values in the universal art world.
Science
Just as Mihály Munkácsy, the “prince of painters” is regarded as one of the greatest sociologists of his time for his realistic depictions of rural and urban communities in both European and Hungarian societies, DrBoba has also discovered parallels between her art and the science of sociology.
Inspired by Pilinszky János’s saying, “If you recognize a talent in yourself, you must cultivate it” DrBoba, with a passion for growth and development, explores and documents the artistic and cultural values of national minorities, often the “smallest” voices that have gone unheard or unrecognized in the contemporary art and cultural scene.
The other side of her value-creating artistic practice is her academic research. Her doctoral dissertation, titled The Emergence and Evolution of the Gypsy/Roma Visual Art Movement in the Context of Social Emancipation in the Second Half of the 20th Century, reflects her deep commitment to highlighting marginalized artistic and cultural values. One of her research goals is to place these peripheral yet universal
artistic and cultural values within the context of Hungarian social and cultural history, revealing their interconnectedness within the broader art world.
In the future, she aims to extend her research to the visual arts of other national minorities in Hungary, along with exploring other art forms and genres. As an artist who successfully combines various artistic disciplines and styles, DrBoba has evolved into a multifaceted creator, further enriching her artistic endeavors through scientific research.
